Tailgate Etiquette- Spread the News Abroad

Tailgate Etiquette.

If you happen to be in Paris and you happen to be in the Louvre and you happen to be looking at the Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci, take the time to spread the news about Brett Favre's retirement.  I don't think they covered it in the Louvre newsletter!

I am sure the French art connoisseurs want to keep up with cultural events of great significance.  Why not pull out your commemorative issue of the Green Bay Press Gazette.  You are doing them a favor....  or is it Fav..re?

Tailgate rules: Toast the Master

Last week Favre said: " I hope people appreciate me, the way I played the game, as much as I appreciated them." To show our appreciation, today from around the world, we, the Lambeau Tailgaters, raise our glass to you, Brett Favre, and thank you for all the memories, the touchdowns, the MVPs, the Trophy, the wins, the streak,  and all you have done both on and off the field. Your mental and physical toughness, honesty and down to earth team attitude were an inspiration to us all. We say Goodbye, Best Wishes, and we'll see you in the summer of 2013 in Canton, Ohio.

Tailgate rules: Buy the Tribute

A complete tribute to Brett Favre could fill volumes, but this 80-page edition is a nice collectible. Some fans waited over four hours to buy it, while others bought dozens of them. Read it now, or put it away and read it when the leaves of autumn are falling and football season draws near, and you long for the gunslinger to return to once again to Lambeau Field.

Tailgate rules: Listen to your elders.

One of the most important rules of Lambeau tailgaters  is to listen to your elders.

Your grandpa, your dad, your uncles have a different perspective on the history of the team and the players.  You can learn a lot from the old stories, even if you have heard them over and over again.

After all, you never know when they won't  be around to tell them anymore.

Tailgate rules: Change is inevitable. Look forward to it.

We have enjoyed one of the greatest players in the NFL for the past 16 years.  Now it is time to look forward to the next generation.  Rodgers has had time to learn, we have a great coach and a very good team, so it should be an exciting new year.

After all, the last generation had to look all the way back to Lombardi, Starr, Hornung and the 60s for the good old days.  We only have to look back to last year and the last 16 years.

Look forward to some exciting days ahead.

Tailgate rules: Tell the story.

Someday I hope to tell my children and grandchildren the story of Brett Favre.  I've been lucky enough to see him live over his entire career at Lambeau Field in Green Bay.  I've see some great games like  Carolina in the NFC Championship or Dallas finally coming to town in 1997.  I've seen some bad losses too, like the shut by the Bears in the 2006 opener, of the first playoff loss at Lambeau to the Falcons in 2003.   It was always a great event, a great memory.  Brett Favre.

But for now, the brats won't taste quite as good, the certainty of a historic game is gone, and it's a long wait for the opener.

Tailgate rules: Appreciate What You Have

"I remember when your father sat me down and told me how spoiled we were because Brett Favre was always there and the Packers were a winning team.  He said I hadn't been through the tough times.  Then he said, You will appreciate it more when he(Favre) is gone"......

Tailgate rules: Mourn the Loss: Favre Retires

The news hit today that Brett Favre retired.  March 4th will be a sad day in Packer history.  We all knew it was coming eventually, but like death, we didn't dwell on it.... and when it comes we mourn the loss and try to look ahead.  Favre has done so much for the Green Bay Packer franchise that he doesn't owe us another year, but we sure would have liked it.  With Favre there was eternal optimism, the hope of victory and the joy of competition.  He brought a "no fear" attitude to Packer football after decades of mediocrity.
Thanks for the memories.

Tailgate rules: Honor your Father and Mother

Winnie rocking Lambeau!

Every Green Bay Packer family has a generational aspect to being a fan.  Packer fans have been fans for life and were born into the fellowship.  As a Lambeau tailgater, you have to honor the tradition your parents have set in place for you.  These ideals make up a part of your family mythology.  "Surviving the Ice Bowl."  "Celebrating all night in Titletown."  A tough legacy, but someone has to live up to it.

The top picture are of Eugene and Winn Bukowski as they ponder the Super Bowl.
The other pictures are of Winnie as she is gearing up for another Packer week and from the pep rally in the north endzone before the 2008 playoff game with the Seahawks.
