What would the Patriarch think about #4?

The most devoted Packer fan I have known was the guy who inspired our family to become Packer fans.  He was even-keeled and level headed and the Packers became entwined into our family culture.

Even though his favorite player was Don Hutson and his favorite 60's player was Paul Hornung, he once said Brett Favre was the most exciting player in the history of the Packers.

First of all I think he would have been disgusted with last summer and the fiasco of the trade to the Jets.  I also think he would have become a little more disillusioned with professional sports and the illusion of loyalty from teams, owners, players and fans.  Lastly, I think he still would have rooted for Brett Favre because of what he has meant to the organization and the great fun and excitement he brought to the team.

He would have been disgusted that Favre will play for the Vikings, but I think he would have wished him well and welcomed him back to Lambeau anytime.

I believe Dad thought Favre was not too bright and would not have embraced him on his journey. I am sorry for your disillusionment. Maybe now you see reality!

I think it seems strange to say that a man who valued character and loyalty so highly would approve of the spineless, selfish behavior of one #4. He cared about the Packers first and foremost. He trashed Holmgren when he stopped being aggressive, and would call players knuckleheads for failing to live up to expectations by making mistakes or bailing on the team for money. Favre was a knucklehead on the field, and has shown he's one off it now too. There is no way everyone's favorite Packer fan would have supported a whining, manipulative, diva for putting himself above the greatest franchise and fan base in sports.

I think you both forget how great Favre was, and how bleak things were before him. Since 1972 they had not won the Division! A player of his stature gets a free pass. We can lose with anyone.

If Rodgers can win the MVP or a Superbowl within 5 years, then it was a prudent move, if not......then I would have rather watched #4 win or lose.
